Spec
1 winner Nick Halen in Formula Premier competition
The Formula Premier turnout was frankly not
what it was last year, with more than a few hot shots abandoning the
class for Spec 1. Formula Premier is where the best of the best run
and it was no different as Nick Halen (MS Kart/VM) was again out
there, although not quite in the dominating nature he’s been used to
as the overall champion of the class last year. Maybe it was the
additional Spec class taking it’s toll or early season bad luck, but
it certainly won’t last long, as Halen is always a force out there
and is on everyone’s minds as the man to beat. Attrition here too
was the order of the day, forcing frontrunner Slava Prikhodko (Tony
Kart/TM) out early, as well as furious flyer Fritz Leesman
(GP/Maxter) - who is lightning quick and showed it with wins in both
heats…sadly Fritz would not finish the main. With karts off left and
right, the door was open for Team Select driver Vivek Tandon
(CRG/TM) to take his first Premier class win with an extremely solid
drive, making up for two off track excursions in each heat. Brian
Anderson (Birel/TM), who has been a series regular since the first
race, celebrated his first podium finish. It was an emotional drive
for sure, and a great moment, as Anderson’s mother was brought to
tears watching her son make a go of it! It’s truly an awesome to
sight to see this family, who has been so supportive of the series
since day one finally rewarded for their efforts.
Hooray for the Andersons, and the Krafts and the Halens, and the
Hendersons and all the other families who make the ProKart Challenge
what it is today: simply a great place to race. The next PKC event
is at the newly configured California Speedway karting center on
February 11.

Nick Halen wins the 2005 Pro Kart
Challenge Championship before the last race.
Our Logan Prescott with his new MS Kid-Kart, has went on to win
at Grange
at the US Kart Championship event, as well as, last Sunday at Perris
out of
14-entries. He's 3 for 3 this month! His older brother, Andre on an
MS
Cadet, won Minimax at Perris, also.
At Grange, Brody Roa won HPV-2 on an MS RA20, and also Dean Richards
won
Senior Superbox and Kate Carnahan was second. Jonathon Evans looked
poised
for good result in the main only to have the starter nut break on
the grid
and the USKC does'nt give points unless you finish.
Dean Richards was back in the winner's circle at LAKC with a
resounding win
in Senior Superbox last Sunday, out 7 entries.
After 3 races ITALIAN OPEN MASTERS ICC
Class MSkart's factory driver Robert Dirks is leading
the Championship.

Little 5-year old Logan Prescott piloting his 2005 MS Kart
package prepared
by Team_Dodson, put on an excellent driving performance Saturday at
the
Apex Racing Series event. He not only won the largest class of the
day, he
took command of the lead at the green flag and never looked back. In
the
final, he lapped half the field along with building a 3/4 of a lap
advantage over the 2nd place finisher by the checkered flag.
Considering he only began his racing endeavors in January of this
year, he
has put together a string of top 3 podiums already, in addition to
winning
several main events and at different tracks like the Grange Circuit,
Adams
Kart Track and Perris Karting. Last but not least, he is currently
leading
the Kid Kart Class Championship points battle in the Apex Racing
Series, as
well as, the US Kart Championship travel series.
Everyone at Prescott Motorsports and Team_Dodson are excited about
this
young man's future prospects, so stay tuned...!!!

After the fourth round of the US Kart Championship Series,
MS-Kart/Team_Dodson driver's hold the following standings in the
2005
points championship:

1st-Dean Richards
2nd-Kate Carnahan

Just a short update as to what we've been doing.
-Attached are some photos from last Sunday's LAKC event at the
California
Speedway. David and I actually had a moment and went out Saturday to
do
some testing in HPV4, 3-sessions in the dry, then 5-in the rain and
he
raced on Sunday. There were 9 or 11 entries. Struggled a little in
the
heats, but still finished 1st/2nd. However, by the main we were able
to get
it sorted and he won the 14-lap event by over the length of the long
straight. A fielded customer of ours, who happens to be 66 years
old, also
on an MS-RA23/Dodson-HPV, finished up 4th.
-Dean Richards, #11 (on an MS-RA20), has moved to senior class and
has won
both Superbox races at LAKC and February's race was in a driving
rain.
Also, he won the first US Kart Championship event at Perris and
finished
2nd at the Grange race on March 13th.
----------------------------------------------
...From here, we don't have photos, however...
-Jonathon Evans has come under our wing and under our tent. In spite
of a
few minor growth glitches, he finished 2nd at the same US Kart event
at
Perris in HPV-2 with a new engine package we put together for him.
Then at
Grange he ran off in the sunset and hid from the field in the main,
out of
7 juniors. Brody Roa, also on a Dodson prepped MS-RA20 finished a
solid
2nd, so it was a clean 1-2 for MS Karts.
-Logan Prescott in this US Kart series has had two 3rd place
finishes in a
row, in Kid Kart-B (new style C51 engines) driving his Dodson
prepared MS
Kart.
-His older brother, Andre (known for making the 2005 MS Kart Catalog
cover), qualified 3rd out of 8 in HPV1/Cadet, also on new
Dodson/HPV, and
drove to a convincing 2nd in the heat only to have a run-in at the
start of
the main. However, solo even, he came from a light year behind to
catch the
2nd-5th group on the white flag lap and still pulled off a very
respectable
(and noticeable) 4th place finish out of it.
That of course is the simplified version.
Thanks again,

Hi Ivan, my son drives for Dodson, we have met once at Adams,
anyways just to let you know he loves the kart and the results
have been great. He won the winter series at Perris Kart
Track in Jr1, has won last weekend at adams kart track, and

sitting third in so-cal points for jr-1. He will be running
hpv 1 soon. Thanks for the equipment, not bad for an 8 yr

May 28-30, 2004 WKA Manufacturer's Cup,

fall off after he hit a bump. Kyle Mayer won the sportsman class

Evans came in third in HPV.

April 3rd
2004, SKUSA, Moran Raceway, California. Zoltan Drugda wins the
Formula S1 on MS RC23/'04 VM ICC, Ron Barcimo finished 2nd in FMX MS
RC23/CR125 and Eddie Williams 3rd in G-1 on MS RC23/CR125 from 25
drivers.

ADAMS/MSKART/FLEMING driver Joshua Brander continues to rack
up top 5 finishes in WKA and IKF competition.
A string of frustrating luck has been following the young
driver this year, and the WKA event at XPLEX (Feb 28/29) in
Vegas offered only minor relief. Joshua posted the 3rd
quickest time of the day in his Formula Y only to find
himself looking at oncoming traffic as a result of a mid
race incident with another competitor. His Sunday looked
much more promising after qualifying 3rd in Superbox. A lap
1 turn 1 melee left him half a lap behind before he could
extract his MSKart from the deep gravel. He rallied,
climbing back through the field for a fourth place finish by
the time the checkers flew.
The IKF Region 7 race at Moran Raceway (Mar 6/7) presented
much more promising results. Formula Y continues to be a
tough nut to crack at this level, and although Joshua ran
consistently fast times and held onto the fast crowd, it
took a last lap pass to secure a 9th place finish on
Saturday. Again, it was Superbox to the rescue. After
qualifying 3rd, Josh managed to keep his MSKart running in
the lead draft in both the heat race and main event.
Running 6th at the white flag, he took advantage of an
opportunity on the back half of the course and found a hole,
going four wide, emerging in 3rd place. Joshua held his
position for the final few turns and crossed the line with
a hard earned podium finish.
FEBRUARY 27-29 IKF X-PLEX LAS VEGAS Ty
Matta qualified on pole in formula Y and HPV, finished 1st HPV
and 2nd in Formula Y. Troy Adams finished 3rd in Rotax Max.

The weather during the weekend was far from ideal. Cloudy
but dry for friday practice, heavy rain for
saturday qualifying and pre-final, and a mostly dry with damp
patches and puddles for the final on sunday.
This only showcased the versatility of the MsKart chassis to
handle the constantly changing conditions
of this temporary circuit as Matta was at the top of the time
sheets throughout the weekend. After qualifying
on the front row he went on to lead the pre-final but a spin
cost him to fall back to third. He was able to
continue and repass for the lead and secure the win. Sundays
final was hectic as the decision of which
tires to use and what setup changes were needed for the changing
track conditions were left to the last
minute. As start time approached it was obvious that slicks
would be the choice as the track although still
very wet in some places was too dry for rain tires. Needless to
say both drivers made the right decision on
their setup. Brander was able to improve from his 7th starting
spot to finish a respectable 3rd. Matta after a
race long battle with Joshua Harris was able to secure the top
spot of the podium.
Congratulations! to Joshua Brander who picked
up his 2nd place points trophy at the IKF Region 7 awards
banquet this month. He drove his MS Kart RA20 to 6 top 5
finishes and a pole in 7 Novice Sr Sportsman events this
season. He scored a 2nd in the Sr Sportsman Heavy class at the
King Taco Open at the California Speedway in July and collected
2 top ten finishes at the IKF 2 cycle Grand Nationals in June.
This, combined with 3 club wins and 6 top five club finishes on
a limited schedule rounded a stellar first season racing karts.
Joshua will be racing his new RA23 kart in the
Formula Y and Superbox classes in 2004 and has collected his
first top 5 of the new year with a 4th place Superbox finish at
the inaugural WKA Manufacturers Cup West race at Willow Springs
this past weekend. Next stop, XPLEX.
Joshua greatly appreciates the support that he
has received from MS Kart through Troy Adams and Power House
Industries and is very grateful for Ty, Scott, Jesus,
and Clay, as well as the many incredible
personalities that make up the PHI Kart Racing Team.

August 16,
2003 Tri-C Karters at Moran Raceway Beaumont, Ca
FLEMING / MSKART / ADAMS driver Ty Matta qualifies on pole and wins
the Superbox main event. It was not an easy race as he was under
constant pressure from behind and was able to fend off an attempted
pass on the last lap. This win strengthens his point lead over his
closest rivals with two rounds remaining.
At the same race Randall King finished 1st in Nov. Junior 1, Steven
Warner 2nd & Kyle Mayers 3rd in Junior Superbox, Troy Adams 1st in
Senior Sportsman, Ivan Bodnar 1st in 125cc ICC Shifter Class on MS
RC20/VM ICC.
August 2nd 2003 SKUSA Race at Perris
was a great success for MSKarts. Kimball Williams after 2 years of
racing absence assembled a brand new MS RC23 chassis with a VM ICC
pkg. 2 days before the race. With only a few hours of testing he
qualified on pole by about 2 tenths in front of Seth Nash and Tommy
Contino. He won the heat race and came in second in the main. In the
80cc Shifter class Shin came in first in the heat race and the main
on RA20/CR80.

ADAMS / MSKART / FLEMING driver Ty Matta finishes 1st in
Superbox after a race long battle and a final pass for the lead on
the last lap finishing just inches ahead of 2nd place.
Soaked in champagne and $300 in his pocket made for a pleasant ride
home.
5/25/03 SKUSA Button Willow Shin Joen wins the
80cc Shifter Class on MS RA20/CR80
Tri-C Karters May race at Grange in Apple Valley, CA.
Joshua Brander worked his way through the field in his heat races
to finish 2nd in both events, earning him the pole position for the
main. He led flag to flag and scored his 3rd win of the season.
5/4/03
Joshua Brander is driving his first
full season and is the current Tri-C Novice Sr. Sportsman points
leader. He has posted 2 wins, a 3rd and a 5th since moving to MS
Karts. In addition, he is running in the IKF Novice Sr. Sportsman
division and is likely to move to at least 4th after the Santa Maria
event (his drop race has already been taken or he would show in 3rd
most likely). He has so far captured an off pole start at XPlex and
a 3rd place finish. He qualified 5th and finished 5th at PKRA and
was nearly in a dead heat for 3rd with Ty Mata and another driver
(check the current notes in Go Racing). He qualified 3rd at Santa
Maria and finished 5th in another nearly dead heat for 3rd.
5/3/2003 IKF Santa Maria, Troy Adams qualified
on pole, won the heat and finished 1st in the main in Senior
Sportsman on MS RA23.
4/19/2003 SKUSA Perris CA, Shin Joen wins the
80cc Shifter Class on MS RA20/CR80
4/6/2003 IKF Phoenix, Ty Matta 3rd in Senior
Sportsman.
3/29/03 SKUSA Mission Region at Grange, Shin
Joen wins again the 80cc Shifter class with MS RA20/CR80 and Ron was
2nd in 125cc spec class on MS RC20.
3/26/03 Another good outing for MS
Karts and Team-Dodson Racing at the So-Cal Sprinters.
This time, it was Cory Carnahan taking the Junior Sportsman first
place honors, as well as, setting the fastest lap of the day at
49.32 in the main with his MS Kart-RA20 chassis. Garret Kepler, also
on a MS Kart prepared RA20 chassis, drove a very calculated, in
addition to, a very mature main event to capture 2nd place, making
it a resounding 1-2 victory in Junior Sportsman for MS Karts and
Team-Dodson.
Also, Troy Adams on a MS Kart-RA23 AKT prepared chassis and
Team-Dodson power plant, easily worked the traffic to put in a clear
and definitive win in HPV-3. Tom Smith, now working on his 6th day
in karting, followed up with a 3rd place, also on a MS Kart-RA23
chassis with Team-Dodson prepared equipment and engine supply.
3/18/03 Here are some recent results on
MS Karts with Team-Dodson prepared equipment:
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
While on the subject of winning, it should be duly noted that
Garret Kepler, on his MS Kart RA-20, Team-Dodson powered equipment
has now won 4 main events in a row, in three different classes, at
two different tracks, in four different track configurations. He has
won two HPV-2 Junior main events in a row at Perris, in both track
directions, and in the rain this last weekend, plus Tri-C Karters in
Junior Superbox, as well as, Junior Sportsman at the So-Cal
Sprinters. We have to give credit where credit is due and give a
hearty "Congradulations!" on a fine level of driving.
David Dodson, on his MS Kart RA-23, has to work just as hard as
anyone else, maybe even harder in some respects, however if I do say
so myself, David drove just about a flawless, steady 20-lap main
event in the hardest rain of the day to capture his 2nd win in only
his 3rd race back in almost two years. He did what was asked of him
and the results speak for themselves...
Tom Smith, (in only his 5th time in a kart period!), with his new
MS Kart RA-23 HPV-4 ride, took 2nd by the 3rd lap of the main and
kept David, who led flag to flag, very honest. Leading in the rain
makes it difficult to judge pace, so David did his job by just
running a steady race for the 20-lap main, however Tom started to
make a run the last two laps. On the white flag lap he attempted to
make a pass on David into turn-1, hit a fairly substantial pool of
standing water and experienced a flame-out, but still managed 3rd
place.
Cory Carnahan, had a double-header baseball game on the day of
the last Tri-C Karters event. With his kart sitting ready on Grid-A
in last place and without turning a lap "all" day, Cory literally
arrived just in time, putting on his suit while running towards the
grid. He drove a very patient race and worked his way up to finish a
very impressive 2nd in the main event! He also finished 3rd at the
So-Cal Sprinters event in Junior Sportsman even though he was 18-lbs
over-weight.
Kate Carnahan lead her fair share of main event laps in her MS
A-100 chassis in Novice Senior Sportsman almost winning her 5th
senior race ever out of 21-entries. However, she did manage a very
respectable 2nd place finish and feel she deserves a note of
recognition for that.
Austin Brooks who just recently moved up from Kid-Karts finished
4th in the main in Junior-I Novice out of 13-entries at the last
Tri-C Karters event on his MS Kart Cadet chassis and Maya
Guitierrez, who also just moved up to Junior-I, finished 4th with
her MS Kart Cadet at Perris in the rain!
You mentioned that you wanted us to forward you "positive" MS
Kart results and we feel these are good. This basically covers the
last three weeks. We hope to be able to forward more as the year
progresses.
Many thanks again,
Danny & David
Hi Ivan,
I purchased my MS Kart RA20 from Danny Dodson back last fall and
I had my
first ever kart race (competed in HPV-4) with the Apex club on
Feb 16th.
Just as an fyi, I finished 3rd in class (9 drivers), and David
Dodson
finished 2nd in a RA23 chassis. Also, I
believe Garret Kepler finished 1st
in HPV-2, and I'm pretty sure an MS Kart won Jr Superbox (I can't
recall the
kid's name, but his kart # was 55).
I love the kart, btw. I hope to get a lot quicker as the year
progresses.
Sincerely,
Rich Mitsuda

Mandarino and Alfonso led the pack through Turn One with Kris Shaw

Rotax Max and For-Kart Race Report. In
125cc Shifter, Tibor Kelemen raced to victory over Lynn Sours and
Eddie Williams. Tibor's day was a challenging one, but clearly his
enthusiasm and determination ruled the day. "The day started rather
tough for us. Arriving late to the track we've missed the morning
practice sessions. Having placed a new piston and ring into the
motor the night before we had our engine break-in on the stand, not
realizing until the end of a struggling first heat that we had a
stuck ring problem. Needless to say, we went to work again. By the
time we lined up for the main I felt quite confident that the PSR
Honda motor package would compliment the MSkart chassis well and
that with a little luck we could be running up front. We were
excited to have prevailed over a good field and also to set personal
record time of 29.784 seconds."

May 30, 2002 - Sears Point Stars Race Report,
The second Stars of Tomorrow regional race drew 127 entries to
the new Sears Point Karting Center, with a strong turnout in eight
of the nine classes that were part of the program. Again the ICC
class led the way with 35 entries taking the green for the featured
25 lap main event. Unlike the first race, a new starting procedure
brought the large ICC field to the starting line and got them off to
a successful start within 30 seconds after the front row of
While/Mandarino hit their marks. However, the race was red-flagged
before the completion of the first lap when a kart flipped while
going throught the infield section. There was a lengthy delay while
competitors waited for the ambulance to return from its trip to the
hospital. On the restart, Lorenzo Mandarino dominated the 25 lap
feature. Pole sitter Ron White would run a strong second for most of
the race, but Brett Buckwalter got by near the end of the race, with
Ron finishing third. Tim Maddux finished a strong fourth, . The best
racing of the day was the battle for the 5th through 8th spots with
Jason Bowles, Alex Speed, David Mayhew, TJ Ross, David Jurca and
Kris Shaw contesting for the spots all race long. Benny Moon, who
finished third in the first Sears Point Stars event, had to start
from the rear of the field due to a faulty clutch, but came through
to take a hard fought eleventh place. Joining the Northern
California ICC contingent were several drivers from British Columbia
as well as drivers from Mexico, Idaho, Arizona, Washington, Oregon
and Southern California.

After finishing a respectable 5th at the
first Stars of Tomorrow race of the year at Willow Springs Bowles
decided to run the first Stars race at the new Sears Point karting
facility to get some extra practice. Although Bowles had not done
any testing at the Sears Point facility before Saturdays practice
day, it did not take much longer than a couple of sessions to be
right on the pace with two of the best shifter kart drivers in the
country. Scott Speed, 2002 Moto World Champion, and Super nationals
winner, and Memo Gidley, 1999 Super nationals winner, and part time
Champ Car driver.
After practice on Saturday Bowles was
consistently in the top five on the time sheets and was confident
about running for the lead. "The kart worked really good today, we
have to make very few changes to the kart or the engine it was just
fast right off the truck."
In qualifying Bowles laid a lap down
that was quick enough to put him fourth on the grid, only six
hundredths of a second off of the pole. At the start of the race
Bowles got a good jump off of the line and moved into the third
position directly behind Gidley and Speed. After following Speed
for a few laps Bowles could see Gidley pulling away and decided to
make a move on Speed to see if he could run down Gidley, Bowles
successfully made it by Speed, and preceded to run down Gidley by
three tenths a lap but in the process also towed Speed with him.
Once Bowles closed the gap to about a half a second an impatient
Speed made a pass that saw Speeds rear end come together with Bowles
left front tire. After the collision Bowles had moved back to
seventh where he stayed the rest of the race due to a bent front end
which resulted in an ill handling kart. "It's really disappointing
to be so fast and have the race end the way it did, I think I had a
real shot at winning until me and Speed came together, but that is
how racing goes and we will be back next month to give them another
run."
